Criminal Record
Persons convicted under state and
federal criminal law will have a subsequent criminal record which can affect
their future lives in many ways. Criminal background checks are frequently
conducted in pre-employment
screenings. A felony conviction will prohibit an individual from purchasing
a firearm and carries other stigmatizing repercussions including
limits placed on the right to travel
to certain countries.
In most states
Department of Motor Vehicles / DMV
records are tied into the criminal record system for traffic offenses.
Administrative license suspension hearings
conducted by the DMV come about due to violations of the criminal law including
refusal to submit to alcohol testing in the case of arrest for driving under the
influence.
