Driving While
Intoxicated / DWI
The acronyms
associated with drunk driving
vary from state-to-state, but in quite a few areas this offense is known as DWI
or driving while intoxicated.
When individuals are
arrested for drinking and driving, the charge and potential punishment depends
upon the DWI law for that particular
jurisdiction. Driving while intoxicated carries with it a
wide variety of punishments depending
on the number of times that the individual has been arrested for DWI and other
factors.
Upon conclusion of
the DWI case, depending on the situation, the defendant may be assigned to house
arrest or probation. He or she may have to perform community service and pay
fines as well.
